What is Remotion?

Remotion is a JavaScript framework that enables developers to create MP4 videos and animations programmatically using React. Built on the principle that video production can be treated like software development, it allows engineers to write video generation logic in code rather than using traditional video editing interfaces.

The framework renders videos by composing React components into frame sequences, which are then encoded into MP4 or other video formats. Users parameterize video content by passing data into components, enabling dynamic video generation at scale. Remotion supports local rendering, server-side rendering, and serverless rendering through Remotion Lambda, making it suitable for both individual projects and high-volume automated production. The platform integrates with coding agents and allows developers to embed video creation directly into applications, enabling features like custom video editors, prompt-to-video tools, and bulk rendering pipelines. Popular use cases include music visualizations, caption generation, screencasts, and annual review videos.

Remotion provides a visual editing environment called Remotion Studio for local development, along with Remotion Player for embedding videos in web applications and Remotion Editor Starter as a template for building custom video editing tools. Pricing operates on three tiers: a free license for individuals and teams up to three people with unlimited use and commercial rights; a Company License for teams of four or more starting at $100 per month with pay-as-you-go rendering costs; and an Enterprise License with custom terms, private support, and monthly consulting starting at $500 per month. Remotion for Automators charges $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum for companies building video cr
