What is Melodyne?

Melodyne is a digital audio workstation plugin and standalone application developed by Celemony Software that enables pitch and time correction, editing, and manipulation of audio recordings at the note level. Unlike traditional DAW editing tools that operate on waveforms, Melodyne analyzes audio and converts it into an editable note-based format, allowing users to adjust individual pitches, timings, formants, and vibrato characteristics independently within a polyphonic or monophonic mix.

The software serves vocal engineers, producers, and musicians who need to correct intonation issues, adjust timing without affecting pitch, or creatively transform vocal performances and instrumental recordings. Users can isolate and modify specific notes within a chord progression, change melodies, adjust vibrato depth and rate, or shift formants to alter the tonal character of a voice. Melodyne integrates with major DAWs including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Studio One, and Cubase as both a plugin and a standalone tool. The interface displays audio in a 2D piano-roll-style view that visualizes pitch and time relationships, making adjustments visual and intuitive. Melodyne supports unlimited undo/redo, batch processing capabilities, and offers both real-time and offline editing modes. Pricing includes four editions: Essential (basic pitch correction), Assistant (note detection and editing), Professional (advanced formant and vibrato control), and Studio (all features with unlimited licenses).

Celemony also produces Tonalic, an AI-powered music production tool that generates adaptive arrangements using real musician performances rather than samples or MIDI, complementing Melodyne's post-production capabilities. Similar tools offering pitch and time correction include Auto-Tune (Antares Audio Technologies), Waves Tune Real-Time, and SoundToys Pitch Monster, though Melodyne distinguishes itself through polyphonic editing and its detailed note-level manipulation i
