What is LiveAvatar?

LiveAvatar is a real-time avatar API that generates photorealistic digital humans for conversational AI applications, made by HeyGen. It enables developers to deploy interactive avatars that speak, listen, and respond naturally across web, mobile, and holographic displays without requiring video production or on-camera talent.

The platform combines facial expression synthesis, lip-sync, and body language animation to create avatars that conduct 24/7 conversations at scale. Users can either select from a library of pre-built avatars across different ages, ethnicities, and styles, or generate custom avatars using just two minutes of personal video footage—allowing brands to create digital twins or on-brand representatives. The system handles the full AI stack, including large language models, text-to-speech synthesis, and session management, or operates as a lightweight streaming API for developers who want to integrate their own backend systems. LiveAvatar operates on a subscription model with two tiers: a "Full" plan bundling the avatar engine, LLM, TTS, and infrastructure; and a "Lite" tier providing the core avatar streaming API for maximum customization.
